Hi Guys,

I am a new to the club having just purchased my second mercedes.

I'm currently trying to get the ipod interface kit for my 03 E320cdi, what i need to know is does the kit allow viewing of your ipod videos through on to your comand system?

thanks:bannana:

Some time later this year there will be an aftermarket kit. At the moment Dietz have a video portal of some kind which can simulate a TV tuner being present and pass over the video from any source. It is limited in functions.

Thanks Guys!

Miro, Do 'AUX-1 & AUX-2' act as video inputs? Cheers.

Its just I'm trying to install some kind of entertainment for my kids in the rear while on long journeys.

Thanks,
T.

With an existing TV tuner it certainly does. For the cost however you could buy several Zunes.

What I'm trying to do is intall an ipod VIDEO intergration kit of some kind, which would happily play videos on my command screen.

Also, trying to install x2 headrest screens linked off my comand.

Having these extra x2 AUX ports on my comand - would this help me achieve what I want?

Thanks in advance,
T.

You should try installing a TV tuner first. If you have already got a TV tuner then you should plug the video ipod into the TV tuner. As for the rear screens - depends on your style of product really. If you are talking about OEM screen for the rear seat then it should plug in if you have a factory TV tuner.

These guys stock the TV Tuner: http://www.audiocomp.de/shop/shop.html and also the MultiMedia adapter (simulates a TV tuner to allow video+audio input). (Its in German but they speak English).

Ive got the Multimedia adapter and in-process of getting the Dension 500 Gateway for exactly the same reason you are wanting it, to use my Video Ipod as music and video source. I used to have an Empeg RIO player (100Gb in-dash MP3 player), but when I upgraded to COMAND, had to remove it. IPod seems a much more convenient solution these days, for music and video.

Audiocomp has photos of the tuner. To sell a tuner you need actual stock.

I would rather have a TV tuner than a Dension unit given that the Dension unit does not control the video side of the ipod.

Perhaps, but reading your earlier posts, there is no real solution for COMAND 2.0 save a Dension unit controlling the audio mp3 side from the COMAND for music playback and manually selecting a Video from the Ipod which the Dension outputs as audio/video which you feed into the Multimedia A+V sockets (or TV tuner). Steve installed my COMAND/UHI so his MOST solution would be great, but I have D2B, so this from what I have seen is the best solution.

This guy will also sell you the Multimedia adapter: http://www.original-navi.de/

To run a video ipod you are just as well off with a Dietz video interface. The Dension does not give any control functions for video.

From what Ive studied, feel free to correct,
For a Video Ipod with COMAND, options are:
1) Multimedia or TV interface connected to COMAND. Ipod with Audio/Video lead is connected to Multimedia/TV Interface. Ipod is viewed or listened to by selecting TV. Selection of tunes/videos is directly on the Ipod.
2) D2B Cars with CAN/Steering Controls: As 1), but use of Dietz interface to allow viewing and control of the Ipod by the Steering wheel controls and instrument cluster display.
3) D2B Cars without CAN/Steering Controls: As 1), but with a Dension Gateway 500 (suitable modification to allow audio output from Dension into Multimedia/TV interface). Ipod for music is controlled via COMAND (CD interface), Ipod for Video is controlled directly on the Ipod and displayed via COMAND TV.
All methods retain control of the D2B CD-Changer. Cars with Steering wheel controls can also use 3.
MOST cars have more options, including Miro's/Steve from MBenzNL system.

For Tripper, sounds like 1,2 or 3 will work fine. I have an ML, so 3 is the option Ive chosen. The C will also be using 3 and so will the A, primarily to keep everything uniform.

miro - why do you dislike the Dension Gateway 500 so much? Is it personal choice or a definitive problem?

The Dension has a mode whereby it is controlled via its own buttons/wheel, not the car audio controls. This would allow you to select/control video playback. Check the user manual for full details.

Don't know if miro dislikes the Dension, he just thinks the MBenzNL offering will be better. Unfortunately, for people who want a solution now, the MBenzNL is no option at all - it is effectively, as far as the 'masses' go, vapourware. If only Steve were in a position to give a target launch date then a lot of people may be prepared to hold on and wait a while. (However, I know first-hand the problems of trying to release products whilst other paying customer priorities keep coming up - it can be tough to get such projects up to the top of the list sometimes :( )

The Maybach is the only production car with D2B. I think the Dension has a poor user interface which the MBENZNL version is somewhat more like the ipod itself. At least from integration point of view and quality I am totally biased.

You can be an early adpoter and turn green with envy later.

Your talking current in production can buy brand new tomorrow cars, right? Not cars pre 2004?
My ML and C are both D2B, for example, an output from CarSoft v8.0 on the ML:
Single Diagnosis D2B - Status: ERROR !
B1112
B1779 CAN between D2B and TV Tuner
B1780 CAN between D2B and Instrument Cluster

Im waiting for my Dension Gateway, will provide hands-on feedback as to the way which seemed best to me once installed (ie. for Video playback).

Is that a question or a comment ? I dont understand. The only true diagnostic is Star Diagnose. It gives meaningful error codes.

When looking into the future I dont see the advantage of investing 3 years to develop solutions for a technology that can only service a minority. Clearly MOST is the product of the future.
