Hi guys,
I've been looking at the Viper SmartStart in order to start/stop the car remotely. They have a GPS option that requires a subscription, and also a BT offering that doesn't need the subscription. The GPS option is far more expensive, albeit has more features, but to be honest i just want the remote start/stop feature. I spoke to one chap yesterday and he said the kit is around £200, but it would cost £1800 yes EIGHTEEN HUNDRED POUNDS to install due to the bypass kit thats needed!!!! He said that Mercs are very complex hence the cost! I am about to contact another installer that Viper recommended, but wondered if anyone has fitted this, or has any knowledge of it?

If you're just after a device to cut the engine, if stolen, then any number of cheap GPS trackers without subscription can do it.

I use an iMars one for a tenner on a motorcycle and it works really well. There is nothing fancy about it though :)

Thanks, bud. No this is a remote start/stop and lock/unlock a device. Granted that i can lock/unlock with the MercedesMe App, but also want the remote start/stop feature if poss

just out of interest why?
a sub 95k car Car should have had this as standard IMO. But if i am honest, my youngest keeps on at me as he's seen this on YouTube and wants me to have it on the merc!!! LOL

Why?

I had it on a hire car once a chevvy tahoe. I couldn’t see the point.
I worked with a guy that had it retro fittrd to his izuzu rodeo?? When I adked him why he said “on cold mornings it was all warm snd defrosted when he get in”.

Id love to hear what an insurance company would make of that ;)

Have seen this feature many years ago and it can be handy. The system I vaguely remember would allow the vehicle to be started remotely which was ideal in the winter as you could warm/demist the car but if someone tried to jump in and drive away, it would cut the engine on pressing the accelerator.

I like gadgets, even some of the gimmicky ones so go for it but do be aware of insurance problems etc as mentioned above.

I have a bridge for sale, going cheap. Joins England to Wales. Special price because it is now free to drive across. 2 to choose from. I can get you best price if you buy both.
