Vista vs XP

I've got vista on 3 machines and xp on 2. Vista is sometimes slow on my Vaio (only 1gb of ram) but runs fine on my desktops (2gb of ram). I've not found any of my software - some of which dates back to 1997:eek: to be a serious problem.

Overall I find the interface a bit awkward occasionally but having been a pc user since dos days I'm sure I'll adapt and the general feel is it is an improvement over xp - particularly like the side bar calender display. :)

Having said all that, there wasn't much I'd change with XP...

Never change for the sake of it. IIABDFI.

hmmmm excuse my ignorance --- what's a registry..

All the bits and pieces that define the computer (hardware & software), applications, network, internet, users and what you had for breakfast gathered together in one place. Potentially acessible to every tom, **** and harry - and a few others.

Works OK, provided you or others don't play silly games with it. Which, of course bad applications and advertisers will do given .000001 of a chance.

Mac has the same information, just organised differently:)

Have to say having recently bought a laptop with Vista, i find no real benefits and it does seem to take ages to do certain things... i mean i power it up, go for a number 2 and sometimes i get back before it has even finished loading up... but once running it seems ok..
might convert back to XP i think...

Every so often I see a system unable to reboot because the system has managed to screw the registry by itself on shutdown or power failure.

Not fun. And sometimes even if you get the system recovered it's 'unclean' because the registry is still slightly damaged.

XP is where its at !

I think that the problem with Vista is that XP is actually a very hard act to follow. If you have a good recipe then tinkering with it may actually spoil it.
