I have a question about blanking off the EGR valve on a X Reg Vito. I've seen lots of stuff about it but I'm confussed as to weather or not I can just blank it off or I need to solder in the resister.

Like this ?

Seems to easy do I not need to fit a blanking plate as well.?

Why would you want to?

No thats it. Things like nissan patrol need blank plate. Vito is simple. if you dont put in a bolt it still works but you will hear funny noises. No sensors either so it does not know.

No egr means no dirty exhaust gases coming back into the engine.

Danny thank you, it is just everything else I've done to my vito has been a complete pain it seemed to easy :-) Marku I know a number of people who have either cleaned or blanked off there egr and all have reported increased mpg. And judging by the black #### i discovered covering the inside of my inlet manifold during a cylinder head change I'm best off with it blanked off.

On my car i suspect too much oil being sucked from the crank breather. It pools in the egr. And the only place to get oil in is from there before the turbo. I am thinking of making an oil catch can to reduce smoke out the back end.

Well early results show that I can't tell the egr is blanked off and the puff of black from the exhaust on hard acceleration seems to have stopped. So all is good

How will just sticking a bolt in blank egr off? Doesn't the maf send (I have 2002 112cdi btw, which has a recon engine & the mechanic who put it in decided not to put egr on & bus kept going into limp mode!!! So another mechanic said he'd put egr back on (donor) & it's puffing black smoke !!! (Dirty egr & manifold I'm guessing) .. Horrid to start & gutless pulling away ... Was gonna pull out & clean but it's peeing down plus when I get home it's dark... Some1 help this thing has cost me over £4k & I'm ready2 explode !!!!!

Sorry I went of on a tangent doesn't maf sensor note that the egr is not working? , I was thinking of getting a auto electrician to shunt it or get egr mapped out ???

My car i year 2000. it has not got a maf as we know it. it has no sensor for egr. so you pull the hose off and stick a bolt in the hose to seal the vacuum of the system. it may not even need to be plugged. it work anyway but i think maybe it makes a funny noise if you don't. Cleaning mine made no difference. still oil puddled in it very quickly. A leaky turbo oil seal is quite likely but perhaps you have other issues. Mine drives fine apart from fear of big smoke cloud. good acceleration etc and never had limp mode even hen inj seals were really bad.

Hi guys on going problem with said Vito mechanic fitted donor inlet manifold & EGR which he has blanked but said he's drilled a 6mm hole in blanking plate? So maf sensor doesn't put van into limp mode... Update now is van was great after blanking (partial)egr, new manifold .. But when you driving van seems to lurch in 4&5th at around 3k revs then pushes on and lurches again at. 4k revs (there is also a whooshing sound) .. Mechanic checked pipes can't find a leak and thinks (has been on diagnostics each time ) that it could be the boost vacum ? (Checked headlight etc which has been disconnected from valve under bonnet? Mech says this isn't it as it's been blanked off with screw in grey pipe under dash) could anyone help ? Or provide me with a decent diagrams of the vac pipes? And also the part number of the boost vacum told it's above the drivers wheel?? How do I get to it? Also is there a Vito expert in Cornwall.. Your help is greatly appreciated

Also van goes into limp mode when driving in 5 th for a sustained period I.e on a by pass ???

Don't really know Danny de Vito, he says he's done plenty before... I'm really getting at the end of my tether I've spent well over £4k & it still goes into limp mode ... I would jib of and sell but I'll just l

loose out, what I really need is a Vito expert to have and sort? He says diagnostics is pointing to boost regulator ... You don't live anywhere near Cornwall do you Danny De Vito?

Sorry i live in kildare ireland. Probably not much use anyway, i've learned all this stuff from here. Also i have blocked egr with the screw not a plate.

But does the ecu not read that it's not getting any reading from the egr? Or is there no sensor? Also is there a decent diagram of the vac system anywhere? Thanks for all your help.

Am I wrong in thinking that the maf reads the air recirculated by the egr ? So if it's totally blanked off won't it go into limp mode? So this is y I think the mechanic has put 6mm hole in ?
