Vito/Viano; When did they get galvanised bodies?

Ta Bill will trawl through some more web sites and see what i come up with.By the way how's your vito been any problems? My current van is a Fiat scudo jtd got new on a 02 plate drives like new,no rust 70k all i have needed bar the usual pads tyres etc was a back box.Saying that i yearn for my sports car youth and i am tired of driving a basic tin box.Need the 120 power and mod cons.Ps my I.T. skills are a tad basic so if you ever read this it will be a minor miracle thanks for reading my waffle Guy S

Hi Guy,

Good luck in your quest. I'm still doing my quest. I have however no rush, I'd like to, but I don't. I figured out that I'm prepared to wait. Very strange for me.

Other than that the only "real" progress I've made is that the 2009 Vito bro*****s state that the chassis is "fully galvanised", which is good. I have however not been able to figure out when that started. I'll better send a ping to the guy I know at Mercedes. :)

Cheers,

Touch wood my 120 has been OK so far ... just coming up for 1st service (2 years, mileage is only 14k).

Hi Guy

Yeh some merc dealers dont seem to want to give prices out. Like Bill I got 12% off my 120 and off all the extras, so make sure you get a good deal. I get mine next week. I had a 99 112 for 10 years and they do rust where you dont expect, but to be honest the van still looked fairly tidy after 10 years, just sold it for £1900, not bad I thought.

Vito rust

Hi, I have a 04 115 traveliner from new which came with the usual "12 year warranty against preforation trough corrosion".
The tailgate went rusty after 2 years due to the leaky number plate light, I was told that I would have to contribute 30% [£130]to the cost of repair by Mertrux there was a small dent, rust on the rear arches was not covered!

They had it for 4 weeks it had to have a new tailgate and my 30% became £515
It now has rust on the bottom edges and plastic trim line of all doors and is about to burst out of the trim line on the rear 1/4 panels. My local body shop says at £1000 to repair.
So far I have had no luck with Mercedes anyone out there have any ideas.

Mercedes do their level best to wriggle out of all rust claims, I'd get it repaired and when they don't pay up, take them to court.

They'll find it hard to argue that a 12 year rust warrenty does not cover rust.

And that a van built in 2004 should have such extensive rust problems, when most other vans on the market do not rust.

Vito rust

Thanks Nick, maybe I should do some sign writing on the van ie; rust by Mercedes

Are you sure it has the 12 year bodywork warranty? I thought that only came in on galvanised 639s, which I don't believe an 04 would be (hence it having some rust now).

And if it does have the 12 year warranty, on what basis are M-B refusing to contribute to repairs now?
