VW Golf VR6 vs SL 500

When and if this happens to me i just pull over as soon as i can and let the idiot go on into the yonder, life is too short to entertain such tw@ts, plus having my wife and little princess on board has changed the way i drive.

Ordinarily guys, I give a sharp jab on the brakes, only on surface streets though, enough to slow a little, and enough to give the tailgateriding£uckwit:doh: reaction time enough to back off. I find this works quite well, I will never do this on the M-way though, as control and safety of my passengers is utmost,:thumb: and as such, for the benefit of the:wallbash: windowlickingnotgottwobraincellstorubtogethertailgatingt!t,:D:rolleyes: I find the better course of action, just to show them what power really is.!;)
Many thanks for your posts,:thumb: keep them coming, by the time we've finished, we will have solved the country's problems.

If tailgated, I just slow down so that I have much more time if the car ahead brakes, so that I can brake more gently ensuring the car behind has less chance of rear-ending me. Then I pull over when I am able to do so safely.

Taking on boy racers has no appeal to me at all.

I very recently has a scary experience. Similar to above.

I was being tailgated as some my have guessed. I wasn't prepared to speed up and close the gap. So I gave it more room. But some decking cent behind me didn't. He, nay, it. It didn't slow down and gently began to push my car. A this point the and fear for the safety of my girlfriend kicked in so I dropped a gear or two and floored it. This moron was attempting to catch up to me but didn't. I remeber being shoked at the speed of the car as I've never had it up that far. Never the less I didn't stop Till I pulled into the next service station. I called police toldthem about the situation. Gave them my number plate so they could see the situation using cameras. A week or so later police came to my address and blollocked me about what I did and gav me a serious slap on the wrist. Accordig to them the car pulled up along side me, hit the breaks, and then tucked in behind me.

Slowing down and adding greater distance between you and the car infront doesn't always work.

My little four pot never had so much fun. And she sounded amazing. Granted not as amazing as some of your cars.

Edit - Looking back now, I would have accelerated enough to pull into lane 1 or the hard shoulder at a safe opportunity. But I had just taken my licence, and back then I thought I was being resposible with what was my mothers car. What an idiot I was.

Blatant evidence of Sods Law in action, you try to do the right thing by reporting the moron, and get told off in the process.

Ye I did. The police frightened me badly. I remember projectile bowel movements because of them. But, I do understand the gravity of what I did. It wasn't right, but in a situation where I slowed down and was being pushed from behind it wasn't wrong either. Sonim still unsure ifthe bollocking was just.

Thinking about the situation again I'm glad I sped off as I believe they could have only intended to bump me to get me to pull over and attempt to steal it. Seems unlikely on the motorway though.

Braking sharply on the motorway 'to teach them a lesson' is ok untill they undertake you and do the same thing to you.

Braking sharply? what is the benefit of that? damaging your car in the case the person behind you smashes into the back of yours. Even if the insurance pays for it it will still be a crashed and repaired car. Not that it can lead to other accidents on the stretch of road.

What's wrong with moving over, or indicating so that you can be overtaken or if the conditions permit and the confidence in the car exists, floor it.

SO, it was YOU, was it...........................

One of the benefits of driving a diesel is being able to put your foot down and have a cloud of black smoke appear behind you  A quick kick down often produces the desired effect and usually I don't have to speed up or do anything else to get the tailgater to back off. :D

I find I have the same problem here in Australia when tailgaters get right up behind me in my 300SEL 6.3. I have a lot of time and money invested in this car and it gets worrying when a 4x4 sits on my tail and I know they can't stop as fast as I can so I either gun it away from them or pull over and let them through.
The MFI engines let out a puff of smoke when the pedal is pushed to the floor and nothing smells worse than a dose of fuel smoke so it's often pleasing to see the tail gater back off as the fumes fill their cabin via the aircon fan...:D
The biggest problem appears to be envy as I notice many of these behemoths just want to pass a shiny mercedes for no particular reason as I hardly ever drive below the limit unless it's in a speed camera zone. And I've never been envious of anyone paying big money for what amounts to a truck dressed in a party frock.
I never have anyone tailgating our ancient Toyota Hiace van although it's as slow as a wet week.

When I'm tailgated, I flip the top off of the gear knob-select oil and spray their windscreen with black goo, if they persist I raise my bullet proof screen and lower the the rear light cluster to reveal my twin machine guns. Never been over taken yet:)

A friend of mine has one of those. Stunning cars, and phenomenal acceleration, although not so good round corners he tells me. Glad to hear of someone else taking care of one of these beauties. Chapeau!
