hi folks would love to hear from other W.126 owners to hear of foibles and stories...goood and bad ones

i've just bought a 1989 500SE (100k on the clock), seems to be going fine, but the oil pressure whilst fine at the start of a long drive ......drops to 2 bars whenever i come to a stop after a drive ....it goes back up again to full pressure when i accelerate.

is this ok ? or have i bought a dud? slightly worried here...as everyone told me not to buy the car! but i love the beast.

No your oil pressure is fine. No need to worry untill it drops to 0.3 bar at tickover. Point of interest. Take the reading while the car is out of gear as whilst held the engine is not ticking over at the correct RPM. As long as it hits 3 bar at 1500 RPM there is no problem.

Could be that the oil is old and in need of a change. With a cold engine the oil is nice and thick hence good oil pressure, the warmer the engine gets it starts to thin out a bit and so pressure drops slightly.
