Hope you can help a dimwit. Have a 2003 C200k and the rear parcel shelf speakers sound like two yogurt pots tied together with string, or the good old fashioned comb over the tracing paper and hummm sort of buzz. So, I would like to change them for something remotely better than the MB Matsui own brand in there now.

My question, as not being a contortionist:eek: , I am unable to clamber into the sumptious boot (!) and establish how to get the little devils out.

Could some kind soul :) tell me if they screw out from below or do I have to undertaken open parcel shelf surgery. Also, if you know the size that would be fantastic.

Many thanks for any help offered, please dont burn me for my ignorance  !!

I'm pretty sure that the parcel shelf would have to be removed. To do this you have to remove the rear seats first and from there is is relatively easy to remove the shelf.

The standard speakers in the W203 are pretty good anyway. In 2003 the ones in the self were slighlty modified and so was the exterior grill on the shelf.

Ho hum

Many thanks Flash, looks like an exciting weekend ahead with a philips screwdriver. The speakers were okay, but anything a bit on the bass side freaked them a little.

Cheers again

Dont take out the seats

You dont need to take the seats out, became Houdini and clambered into the boot (I looked like the mafia had stolen a body and you could see my legs just sticking out!).

Underneath the speaker unit there are two plastic clips, these need pushing into the housing of the parcel shelf. Then, try and get out of the boot, not very easy when your 6ft.

On the rear parcel shelf, the "grate effect" of the speaker cover actually unclips off, prise up from the front part and the back (nearest rear window) then slides forward. The speaker, in all its glory is there before you, it is also powered with a fuse. The size is 12" and you have to slide it in and out through the hole (a Frankie Howard sketch crying out there!). reattach the leads and hey presto, job done. I added extra sound proofing, there is quite a gap between the the chassis and parcel shelf that stops the authentic farting sound when the bass vibrates.

Hope that helps!

If you could take a pic of the stock speaker that would be cool.

What brand is the stock one? Im guessing non-bose system. All I see in mine in the boot is a big paper cone.

Will do, and for sure - certainly aint Bose, looks (from memory) having the shiny star logo on top, what lies beneath I have yet to discover, let you know!!:bannana: now dancing with no farting!
