Eventually got round to fitting the refurbished alternator, cost £74 from ES Alternators in Kirkintilloch with a 2 year warranty.
Problem solved, battery light out.
Thanks all.
No hesitation in recommending ES, they are doing alternators from literally all over the world, cars industrial and even trawler boats.
