Hi there,
I have just purchased a 1982 230e, manual, petrol.
The electric passenger mirror is not moving/working and I wondered how I can try to find out where the problem lies, whether it is the motor or whether there is an electric fault somewhere.
Any help would be mostly appreciated :)

No motor sounds no...
The electric windows all work fine.

Because you dont hear the motors I would check the fuse first, then maybe the motor(s)? maybe the motors on the passenger and drivers side are the same and you could swap them to see if the motor is faulthy

Only electric on passenger side. Drivers is manual.

As said, start by checking fuses, then check the switch is operating. The mirror is easy enough to take off and take apart. The glass just pulls out and pops off the motor mounts.

Thanks for this!

Fuses seem OK. Take it there is only one fuse box? The one the engine bay?
How would I check if the switch is operating?
And to test the motor? Would I simply take power from the battery directly with a couple of leads..?

I have a few other issues too if you have any suggestions for where I can read up about solving these that would be mostly appreciated.

- The central locking system does not work. Any good guide somewhere to try and sort this out?
- Something is not quite right with the suspension. There is a knocking sound which sounds like metal knocking into the chassis, when going over bumps. I can't see anything wrong, but was wondering if some 'part' that should be between either springs or shocks could be missing...?
- Looking at Eurocarparts website, there are two oil filters, with different inner diameter. How do I know which one is the right one? Do I have to measure it or is the information written somewhere? I have the 102 engine.
- Then... I want to try and replace the front shocks myself... Is it as easy as this? Can I do it with the wheels on the ground? This guy doesn't turn them even, which seems impossible to me, but if I turn them outward I can get to it fine....
Is this a DIY job for someone who has never replaced shocks before?

BTW what a fantastic car this is... :)
