Hi all
So my W123 200 auto rev counter stopped on a journey, have been on YouTube for various solutions, I'm trying to locate the overload protection relay on my car [1985] been under the dash on the passenger side /behind the glove box / kick panel passenger side / behind the instrument cluster / drivers under dash .My car does have the diagnostic port in the engine bay connected to the crankshaft pulley sensor [diagnostic only] does anybody know where this little sucker is hiding ? or how to fix this issue ? I have fitted another rev counter but this does not work either and I know it worked before. Any help would be appreciated.

This is a common issue, the usual culprit is a failing tach amp. It is located on the inner left fender, an upside down trash can looking thing. It unscrews. Some have had temporary success by fitting an object between the top and amp, therefore making a better connection. However, I've found this to not last long. A new unit should work fine. They are getting pricey, however.

Optimusprime afraid mine is a later model and doesn't have the Tach amp fitted, today found a relay gonna change it to see if that fixes it, will report back ,fingers crossed.

2.0L petrol with carbs ,my happy place :)

The wires to the tac will usually either go to the transistorized ignition unit or the coil. You might want to check the wiring first and make sure that the connections are clean and on tightly.
