hello everyone,
i have bought a 230CE W124 and i am thinking to transplant the bigger 3.0 24V engine into it. I assume the engine is plug & play to fit but how about suspension brakes because i assume it is bigger and heavier. the 3.0 is the 24V version and the 320CE is 3.2 12V right? would the 12V be easier? how about the gearbox and the differential would they have to be changed (the differential i assume yes).. ? any advice would be appreciated

The 320E 3.2 is in fact a 24 V engine very similar to the 3.0 24 VALVE ENGINE. It's only the old 3.0 litre single overhead cam straight 6 engine that's 12V. These transplants are very tricky because the fuel injection and ignition systems changed completely also and you have to transplant those also. Several people on the forum have tried this type of swop and run into problems. You will have to change the entire front suspension and brakes to cope with the increased weight and power and probably the rear springs and shocks also. My advice would be leave your new purchase alone and swap it for an entire bigger engined car. Sorry.:(

Or just put the larger 3.0 engine in it.
