W124 300TD Cruise Problem

Hi

My wifes 93 300TD's cruise works intermittently, have checked tyre pressures etc, seems to work for a while every now and then. Is there anything i should check first. The internal light does not come on when the doors are opened although the puddle lights come on could this be linked??
Help would be appreciated.

First check the brake light switch (easy), then if that doesn't do the trick, it could well be cracks in the printed circuit board of the CC amplifier, where the connector is soldered to the board.
