Having some fun with the car either at start up or for no particular reason when warm not staying at a constant tick over so when reversing the car lurches. Do I have a problem with the throttle body or perhaps an air leak on some piping that might be causing it or is it likely to be something more serious. It happens intermittently so I can't as yet see a pattern. Any ideas welcomed.

Thanks

Paul

Do you have someone locally that can read the codes on that generation of car ?

If you want to come to Reading/Caversham I can do it by appointment.

I have exactly the same engine in my 95 coupe and have all the workshop manuals.

Is the regenerative valve on the inner wing (offside) ticking/pulsing when engine is hot. It has MOT on top.

They sometimes seize open and allow the petrol tank fumes to enter the engine at inappropriate times thus causing the engine to run erratically and also stalling when pulling up at junctions.

Also check the pipes have not come loose on the unit.

Wifes old 210 with the 104 engine and a couple of her minis did this all i did to fix was remove and give the throttle body a good clean with carb cleaner and an old toothbrush.
Her 104 was also very fussy on spark plugs almost ate them but at least they were cheap.

thanks for this i'll have a look to see what the value does, I can get the cars codes read locally, thanks for the offer and i'll see what the feedback is and see where that takes me.

Thanks, have done this at the last service and after 3,000 miles or so it started again but no harm in checking.

The car has been to the shops today they found 2 leaks one on the heating system on a yellow splitter valve where the connector is broken and can easily be replaced. The other one confused me, a pipe projects into the engine compartment at the front right as you look at the engine bay. It comes from inside the nearside front wing, nothing seems to be missing needing a pipe connected to it, any ideas on what it should connect to? Plus side is that the kangarooing has gone. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have this clicking on My M102 engined 124 in the same sort of region and wondered what it was. Looked to be connected with fuel lines. Sounds very likely to be the same on mine. Sometimes when hot the click is very pronounced. Can you post a photo of the part you are referring to?

I'll post photo's in the morning, sounds like you are probably right, I just can't see anything.

Images attached of pipe that comes from the ns front wing and goes nowhere. What should it be attached to? When the garage ran smoke through the piping to check for leaks it poured out of here.

The other offender what this yellow item what is it?

Many thanks for folks help on this one.

Doesn't that pipe run to the charcoal canister in the front nearside wing......it deals with emmissions and is scheduled to be replaced at @ 70,000 miles from memory, but is often ignored and can cause running problems when it gets blocked.
