Hi all,

ABS light came on during a drive today. When I parked up I swear there was a bit of a burning smell as well, but I might have imagined it as I couldn’t smell it when I lifted the bonnet and had a sniff around.

ABS light was still on when I started the car up later in the day.

I’ve checked the OVP relay fuses and they’re both okay. What would be the next thing to check?

Check the abs sensors on the front wheels, there is only one at the rear and unlikely to give trouble.

A sloppy front wheel bearing can trigger it, and would explain the smell.

Ah I did notice there’s a bit of wheel bearing noise coming from the front. That could be it then!

The roads around Oxfordshire are terrible 🤬 I’ve had 3 wheel bearings develop play on my 1 series BMW in the time I’ve owned it so I guess this should come as no surprise…

Abs light caused by the sensor will only illuminate when your moving.

If the light is on all the time after start, likely to be the relay(s) on the pump or fuse to the pump.

If it comes on only after moving then likely to be a sensor.

Okay, guess I better start by replacing the relay then, as the fuses were fine and the light was on when I wasn’t moving.

The fuses can look fine & still be faulty. Before playing parts darts I'd start there.

High idle? OVP?
