Hi,
Hope you guys can help a newbie to this forum?

I am trying to diagnose a problem with a W124 230CE engine M102.982 for a friend.
I have tested the blink/flash codes and we get just one code registered of 5 blinks. So far so good, I now need to find what the code means. There are lots of tables for US spec cars but none that i can find for european cars. Does anyone know where I can find the appropriate list?

Astonmad they can all be found here - Google this > MB Fault Code Manual 1985 - 2000 < to many for me to sort out .But they are there .
Thanks for the info. I can find "MB fault code manual 1988 - 2000" on multiple links but this is the Baum Tools manual and it does not cover M102 4 cylinder engines. The models covered are US only.

Doesnt it depend on what pin you are reading the 5 blinks from?

Should make no problem for you the codes are all the same .

I just came back to find this out only half the info was posted is it 8 pin or 16 pin socket ? Also the poster is French .
Hi
it is an 8 pin connector and the pin used is number 3. Which I believe is CIS-E fuel injection. You are right that there is little information to be gained from the socket as pin 3 is the only one present all the others are blank.
I am English, just retired and living in SW France.
The symptoms we are getting are that the car hesitates a little when responding to the throttle when pulling away and when accelerating gently from a steady cruise the engine stumbles. Could be the throttle potentiometer but it would be great to confirm this with a code reading.

Yes, it is. And 5 blinks should mean, "Oxygen sensor signal illogical"

So, as Grober says, the O2 sensor may be the issue.

Check the connections from the sensor and under the carpet just in front of the RH front seat (on mine, at least!).

Where are you in Aquitaine?

Also do check the small micro switch on the throttle actuator must be closed till you accelerate . All of this will not help., if the ht system is in poor condition . And not forgeting this little baby --= OVP And engine temp sensor in the fresh air intake trunking . Vacuum leak of any kind will upset the driving of the car .

Hi Ray,
Down near Villereal which is below Bergerac.
Will check the wiring connection to the oxygen sensor. This has been replaced but did not make a difference.

We're up near Nontron, north of Pgx.

Did you clear the code? And then it returned?

One thing I've learned with these cars - I've had my 300CE since 1997 - is to clean every electrical contact that you can get to. Unplug, apply quality contact cleaner, plug, unplug again to ensure the contacts are really clean. And then find the next plug/socket/connector, whatever. Same on all electronic modules and earth connections.
