i have noticed that as i mainly use the key in the drivers door to unlock and lock when i use it in the passenger and boot locks it doesnt always turn first time and needs a bit of wobbling in the lock.

i locked the boot last week turning to 3'o'clock to double lock to boot and since then i havent been able to unlock it. i have tried wobbling it and wobling it and i have tried the spare key i got cut a year ago and still nothing. very annoying as now i cant get into the boot!!

two things;
1. am i missing something? why cant i open the boot? i dont use the double lock 3'o'clock postion often but i have never had this problem before. how can i get the boot back unlocked?
2. if number 1 doesnt doesn't have any luck is there a way i can open the boot from the inside? i think the rear seat comes out with bolts on the car side but is there a way to turn the lock back from the inside?

Flood the lock with WD40 every 10 minutes, push the spray can straw into the lock as far as it will go, occasionally work the key from side to side but don’t use excessive force.

Keep the boot open all the time and spray into the lock with the boot in the open position, this way the WD40 can reach all of the lock mechanism much better than if the boot is in the closed position.
Be prepared to spend an hour at it.

EDIT, Sorry, I completely missed that you cant get the boot open, still try flooding the lock as it is.

have you had the same probelm? is this common? i have a feeling it is more that the key cannot fit the lock properly rather than the mechanism being jammed but i am willing to try with wd40 if it is likely to be this...

I don’t know the W124 to advise further, someone else may advise better but flooding the lock should be the first thing to try.

Is the key that you are using known to have worked in the lock in the past? there is always the possibility that this is the wrong key. Keep trying with the WD40 but don’t force it.

brilliant i opened the lock with ease after filling it with wd40 and leaving it 10 mins. many thanks dec!

i recomend anyone having the same problem to try this before they get too fustrated and snap the key in the lock

Further to that, now that you can open the boot you should give it another good dose of WD40 as described in post # 2 this will allow the oil to soak down into the lock mechanism properly if the boot is in the open position.

In about a weeks time the WD40 will have dried out and will no longer be a lubricant, you should then get some type of silicon spray that wont dry out and again flood the lock as described in post # 2.

If you can get hold of some graphite powder it is much kinder to locks and provides great lubrication without being a dust trap.
