Anybody had a problem with their w124 COUPE drivers door catch. Symptom is that sometimes it just doesn't shut but "bounces" off the stop as its refusing to latch.:( I,ve noticed the chrome door lever is not returning to its flush position in the door recess also. Its nothing to do with the remote locking because when it does larch with some fiddling it locks and unlocks fine. :)I have lubricated the lock externally and this help for a while.I am thinking 2 possibilities.
1. weak return spring on operating handle or door.
2.operating cable is slack/kinked/neads greasing-replaced.
Anyone experienced a similar problem and how did you cure it???

I believe the problem lies in the cable that connects the door handle to the locking latch mechanism.

Had a similar prob on a W123, turned out the cable between the interior door handle and the door locking mechanism required changing. Changed this cable and it worked. I believe there is an adjustment on there you can try first.

I have a simular problem on my Coupe, I found that if I lowered the window just a fraction, literaly eigth of an inch, the door closes perfectly, close it fully, bounces back, unless I really slam it.

Anyway, Ciao.

and I just have window problems on mine:D . But when I took the door card off I did notice that the cables were beginning to look sad. So next time I remove the card, the cables get changed.

You might check that the latch hasn't worked a little loose - this was the problem I had with the tailgate on mine. Okay, different car and different bit of body, but easy to rule out.

I know the problem you have refers to the w124,But upon seeking advice with the problem on our ML door locks,I thought well, lets try some wd40 all around the locking mech, and the problem got worse?

So when i replaced the lock at the weekend i noticed that the wd40 was causing more frictional resistance between, the catch that actualy moves and the mounting plate. These are plastic coated metal. (also there was a broken spring inside which did not help)causing the locking arm not to pull up into the locked position.

You should be able to flick the locking catch on the lock up, so it appears to be locked and then release it with the internal door handel with the door open to see if the door catch is working, this should move freeley,if not then you will have to start taking things appart to find the fault.

I dont know if it is a solution or what but I have recently changed the window mech on my coupe. I found that the door bounced out. Lowering the window worked but looking into the problem more I found that the door wasnt lined up correctly. I adjusted the door, the door catch and whalla, closed perfectly now. The problem is the seal at the top of the door provining extra pressure on closure. With there being no pillar it created extra spring in the door frame which I think, caused the door to bounce out.
