My brilliant 5 year old announced today that he had broken the cruise control on my W124. The indicator-type arm is still attached, but now flapping around. Any suggestions for what may have broken inside and how to fix it would be greatly received, please? Many thanks.

I think that it will have to be replaced and thats is a steering wheel off job

No, he was getting in the car away from a road on a private driveway and decided to go in via one of the front doors. "For fun" he grabbed the stalk on route. There were no keys either in the car. It was honest of him to tell us what he had done and our fault in not stopping him fast enough to go in via one of the front doors

These things happen bless him, and he was only 5 and no the end of the world. Get an indie to do it or are you going to try yourself

Thanks. I will use my regular garage, I think, because taking a steering wheel off (and putting it back on!) may be a little beyond my capability. I would also imagine that there are quite a feew wires involved although I suppose I could take a photo before I remove the old cruise control unit.

Everything unplugs an it is a quick job to do.

The hardest thing is geting the wheel off as the 10mm hex wrench is very tight and easiest done on a air line
