All I will say that MERCEDES dealerships and service centres should all be shot - You guys are far for useful!

How's that for an easy way to nick a W124. If you can't fathom the alarm, ring Scorpion they will tell you how to deactivate it. Doh!:(

Very Good point

Stupid idiot!! Fortunately I am not a car burglur!

You do need to have access to the cabin of the car , and dismantle the lower half of the dash to get to it ...

Someone would notice you doing this i reckon ......

2 sides to the arguement.

As always there's 2 sides to the arguement. Craigieg is now driving around in a car with"compromised"security and I stress the word DRIVING! He could of course be still "ADMIRING" his very safe secure and IMMOBILE vehicle in his driveway. ;)
How long would it sit before,to quote the old joke ----guy breaks down on motorway-----pulls on to hard shoulder----- gets out raises the bonnet to locate the fault------hears a noise, and looks down the side of the car to see a guy removing one of his rear wheels------------he shouts HEY what are doing?----------the guy says SOD OFF MATE if you're having the battery I'm having the tyres!
You do raise a valid point about security however. :( All I can say is the aftermarket alarms of that era are not exactly rocket science relying more on inaccessibility rather than sophistication to achieve their aims and of course with the alarm set non legitimate access to the system in the interior of the car is difficult. How you help out the genuine owner with nowhere else to turn to but prevent the information falling into the wrong hands is a major problem for alarm companies and manufacturers. I dont know the answer , but I have suffered the same situation myself. There is nothing more frustrating than having a perfectly serviceable car standing in front of you which you cant use because of some mysterious security glitch. I have a feeling the AA breakdown callout figures cite flat battery/immobiliser problems as the 2 most common problems they have to deal with now, so I am not alone. It would be interesting to hear of other forum members experiences in this regard.

Can you post the contact details for Tony so the rest of us can benefit from this knowledge?
