Hi people, after a bit of guidance here:

First try at a 'poll' so hope it works.

Now I can't make up my mind what looks better, I do have a slight preference, but not telling, :D

A) Original

B) NO Star (grill)

C) WITH Star (grill)

Thanks in advance, Bill.

Bill, whats the difference between the 'Original' and the 'No Star'...

they both look the same to me

Yep - but you still see people do it!

Very true...

With the w124s of this vintage (pre facelift) you should leave the original grille on , the big stars were for the SEC series .... and should stay that way.

Just about the only possible grille mod for a w124 that looks ok is the Avantgarde grille swap (non OEM so quality varies) you can pick them up on Ebay for about £35 ...

And yes, the big star grille is horrendous..... sorry Bill

The lights, indicators, repeaters. Sorry.

IMO no merc should be fitted with a big star grill unless it was made that way.
They just look wrong (more so if they still have original star on bonnet) unless they were made that way.
Clear indicators always seem to suit the shape of mercs.
I fitted clear indicators/repeaters to my 190E. My C class came fitted with them but still had orange wing repeater lamps that were soon changed to clear.

I voted no star but keep the clear indicators...

OK, OK, you win!

The original grill is back on, I have to add that it is/was my preference anyway, but I thought I would just try the other one to see.

Thanks for all the input/comments, appreciated.

Cheers, Bill. ;)

Avantgarde style!

Big star's are appalling

Avantgarde for me too, ive just ordered one for mine :bannana:

Would someone have a picture of a pre and post avantgarde facelift (pref on a facelift w124 model) so that i can see what effect the new grill makes.

(picking up my W124 estate on saturday :) )

I believe it is possible to cut a W140 S600 grill to fit within the W124 grill frame, it is about £200 from the parts dept and you'd need to be good with a dremel or something to shave off the bits that stick out. That is the highest quality method.

If you buy an "avantgarde-style grill" for the W124 it is most like a *pair* of pre-facelift W210 avantgarde grills glued together, quality will differ depending on whether the grills used were oem or aftermarket, the clue is usually in the price ;)

Thanks for all your comments :) I have to say I've been thinking of the avantgarde grill for a while. I'll just have to get one and try it, I suppose. ;)

Cheers guys.

For comparison, a facelift w124 grill:
