W124 300D - The headlamp glass seems dirty from the inside of the glass, and iam not sure if i could take these off and refit them after cleaning - Are there any suggestions anyone could give - Also don't really want to spend £40.00 for each glass from eurocarparts Totalling to £80.00.
The light just isn't good enough at night, or is it something else i should be looking at (Bear in mind if looking at the car, facing the front you can see the headlamps are on, but while sitting inside,it just doesnt seem like the lights are on,unless in very dark roads),and at day time you can see the glasses are slightly black from the inside.

Are you sure your headlights are coming on at all and your not running on side lights? switch on your side lights then get someone to switch on main beam while you are looking at the headlight AT HEADLIGHT LEVEL!! and you should see a notable increase in brightness even in daylight. If theres a problem remove one of the headlight connectors and test for 12v with an multi- meter. If not then your reflective surface on your light units is corroded and you will need new headlight units not lenses. :( Take one apart and examine the innards for corrosion and give the lens a clean at the same time. You will have to remove the light unit first. the glass is held on with clips take care not to break them when removing the glass. :o Beware that the lenses can look dark when viewed in daylight at a certain angle even if they are clean
