Hi all,

I have recently purchased another TE, this time a 1991 300 24v.

I have a question re the cruise control.

It seems to work a treat if a little jerky?
It holds desired speeds and accerates/decelerates perfectly but just seems to be a lot less smooth in operation as opossed to holding the throttle down myself at any given speed?

Any idea's much appreciated

Cheers

Paul

May be that it was not used much for a while and the linkage is gunked up and therefore moving in jerks.

Unit sits on the side of the engine with a rod that fits into the throttle linkage.

Try cleaning up the whole linkage with spray solvent and then lubricating with ATF.

Also, it is getting its speed data from a hall effect sensor in the speedo - if your speedo needle is jerking at all because of a worn speedo cable then the cruise will be getting spiked and will try to follow!

Rarely, if there is a problem with voltage regulation then the cruise will be affected - test by running a meter on the charging voltage while the car is on the move.

If none of these fix it, you will need to look at possible swap out of the actuator itself or the amplifier that drives it - expensive but there are sources of remanufactured units.

I think i found that bit and gave it a bit of a lube, i will give it a try tommorow when i get back from work.

The speedo's smooth as silk, but it could well be the linkage!

cheers for your help, ill let you know how i get on.

thanks
