W124 sound system/engine performance drop!

When you are "cruising" with the windows open, (annoying most people), you do not need to drive above 20 mph........so I do not see a problem

So, there's no way to continuosly run at thousands of Watts without discharging the battery,

It's even worse than you thought, the input power is 1800 watts. That needs 150 amps just to drive the amp.

To be honest, I dont really listen to my music extremely loud. In my previous E220 W124, even just driving past some parked cars it used to set off their car alarms! The worst was in car parks! But anyhow that was back then and ive pretty much stopped annoying people and I now listen to my music at moderate levels to really appreciate the sound quality.

I did some fine tuning to the system when I got home from work and now Ive set the amplifier gain half way. The bass balances out nicely with the rest of the speakers and the cars power is all ok now.

Just to clarify, I dont drive erratically so when I was talking about the engine losing slight power it was just from normal driving conditions as you would go from a traffic light turning green (0 - 35/40mph). So please dont report me for W124 abuse, I cherish her!!!
