W124 throttle cable needed. NLA from MB

So, called up Speedy Cables to chase the repair and was quoted by Darren £30 + VAT+ postage which seemed ok so I gave the go-ahead. It looks like this particular chapter in my w124 ownership story is drawing to a close...except the fuel economy on the way to Cornwall seemed awful. Appeared to use much more fuel than normal - though car was loaded and AC on all the way so I will need the journey home to double check. I have it booked into AJ Robertson in Hove on Tuesday so I will ask them about cable adjustment etc. Is the perfect adjustment of the cable critical? Probably a silly question...

Hi All

Cable(s) sourced and installed. Car up and running again and all good. I now have two good cables one of which is on the car and a third (the original) at 'speedy cables'. They are not replying to my enquiries even though they acknowledged receipt of the broken cable. I have asked that they quote repair before going ahead. Worst case scenario is I now get a large bill for refurbing the original cable which will leave me with three. First cable cost £30 from a breaker I know and the second cost £95 from eBay (Fraubenz). Both in reasonably good condition but with plastic coming off the outer cable. I think that RHD M104 engines share a similar throttle cable so that's what I searched up. Very easy to remove/install. Mainly pulling bits of trim off and I installed some new cabin filters that I had while I was there. The old ones were totally BLACK. Pedal pressure is quite different though with much shorter travel. I quite like it though and as all gears change as they should and tick over is the same I'll leave it for now. I am driving to Cornwall tomorrow morning and...I finally bought breakdown cover...
I had a similar problem with my 1994 E280 estate, where I broke the big black adjusting screw when working on something else. MB were unable to supply an original on Part No. 1243007430 and as I was desparate i accepted 124 3006930. It is a little bit longer than the original and I had to fit some bits to the end of the cable to shorten it a bit at the engine end. I have only just found the correct part number on the original cable (after a year) and was able to do an online search today. They are still avaliable from elsewhere in the World but as the car is running OK I am going to leave it for now. I'm only on 230,000 and it would have lasted a hell of lot longer if I hadn't been so cack handed!!!

I've never had a cable break but the little rubber bit at the engine end did fail once and left me high and dry. I now carry a couple in my survival kit as it only takes 15 minutes to replace.

But mine's LHD so the cable has less stress on it. And there's one of those in the kit too!

Best to all.
