My 300ce starts first touch of the key when cold, but requires foot to the floor throttle to start when warm. Runs perfectly once started. Anyone know what the problem could be?
2001 W208 CLK320 Coupe Almandine-Black. (Looks Purple-ish).
I have found it quite typical of the aforementioned model. Best thing to do after you have run the engine and want to start again once it is warmed, try to start (engaging key for no more than a second), then try it again, you will find it will start just like when it is cold, but only on the second try.

It could be lack of fuel pressure allowing a vapour lock when the engine stands when hot.
Check the fuel pressure and that any non return valves are functioning.
Sorry about the delay in replying - I had to attend to some family biz. Thanks for the replies and to MangoMan whose tip seems to work - second touch of the key and it starts OK without flooring the throttle.
