W124 windscreen pillar corrosion

The windscreen on our S124 was replaced some years ago by a fast fit windscreen company but that windscreen is now in need of replacement, but the windscreen pillars, particularly the o/s pillar have large rust blisters on the fronts and it has been suggested that there will be large rusty holes when the old windscreen and its sealant are removed.
The car is otherwise a mostly one owner example with an invoiced full service history and solid body with a clean and tidy interior, although 200k miles.
Is it possible / safe / viable to weld new metal into these pillars? The insides seem to be free from any rust, so, just the outer skin is rotten.
 
I saw an 8 year old Porsche Turbo in a local body shop having rust around the bottom of the front windscreen repaired because of a faulty windscreen installation a few years earlier.

The owner had the area manager for the well known national mobile windscreen replacement co. come out & inspect. He agreed the work was way below standard & the cause of the rot & the company are paying the bill.

Have you gone back to who ever fitted your screen & said "Oi, look at what you did!"
 
Rusty A pillars should always be a source of concern since they are pretty important to passenger compartment integrity. It really depends if the rust is superficial or sufficient bad to pose a structural risk or not.

It was an insurance fit for the previous owner, so I doubt that the company would care.

If the pillars turn out to be too rotten to repair safely, then the windscreen issue will be mute I suppose.

So was the Porsche. If it's a big company & it still has their screen they'll care.
