Any symptoms you get, such as a misfire, could mean the ECU is already damaged. I'm not scare-mongering, but in this case, prevention is far better than cure. It's not just a mileage-related problem, but also time. The newest W124s are 13 years old now. My advice is to bite the bullet and replace it. Read this thread
