w126 - bumpers & side trim colour

Hi,

I'm currently buying a 1986 500SEL and I'm new to MB (so sorry if this is a daft question!).

The bumpers and side trim have been painted and I would like to return them to the correct original colour.

Was there a "standard" colour/finish for these parts, or did it depend on bodywork paint colour, or buyer choice?

Is there any way I can find a paint code for the original bumpers trims on my car?

Th side mouldings ( which were self coloured=grey) were changed in mid 1985 from the early ribbed design to the plainer design which lasted the rest of the production run My guess would be the best match to the original would be grey metallic clearcoat (matt)
MB DB-7176 The code may be on your vehicle data sheet at the rear of the service book.

i remember seeing a colour chart on benzworld somewhere showing all the different 2 tone colour combinations, try calling you local dealership with the VIN they should be able to tell you what the correct colour is
