Car
W126 500 SEC
The weak spot of every W126 it seams. The rear scuttle (panel under the parcel shelf) on my car is crusty and idealy will need replacing if I make the car my keeper.

So can anybody give me a ballpark figure for the job? also any local Indys in the Midlands who can be recomended?

I read a threaad on another MB forum, admittedly from 2010, where the guy got the whole job done for aaround 300 quid. IIRC the replacement panel was oly around 80 from MB.

Any input welcome!

£300? Wow, I thought much more than that. Its a bit 'how long is a piece of string' though, cos of how much rust I suppose.

We need to find out where that price was got from and go there..

In the thread the guy said the replacement panel was fitted for 150 quid! Must have been mates rates.

I'm going to get a couple of quotes from two of the local ish specialists (SL Shop and Mercworld) and take it from there I think.

Ultimately the car was never purchased as a keeper but it's growing on me.... If its a 1000 quid job then it's just not feasible.

i got qoute from the sec shop and he said about 900 with replacment boot seal and windscreen seal

About what I was thinking if I was being honest with myself then....

Hmm, I guess if I keep the car long term it would be worth it but theres no way i'd ever get that kind of money back.

See what happens MOT time, not that theres anything I can think of that would be a fail!

I just wondered if you had the work done and if you were happy, I have just been quoted £1800 plus vat with the caution that if more work is found it will be dearer and always a chance of cracking the screen!
