w140 600SEL Going cheap

Agree-unfortunately running costs will put off 99% of buyers-i presume when things go wrong they will cost thousands to fix:eek:

Big, big car....kooks good in photographs but no information? I will stick with my CL420.

You could have 5k miles of weekends in 18 months and sell it for four hundred less than you paid for it, if you avoid a serious problem that could be a lot of fun - and a lot of fuel - but you have to pay for your pleasure!.
I've had a couple of those and they really do give you a hell of a thrill. Floor it and you do feel like it's going on warp-factor, very difficult not to whoop the first few times.

One of the first models.W140's we buy after face lift 1996 plus.
It's not really cheap, misses leather dash,it's a 4 speed box 722.5 heavy on fuel, face lift models better investement I belive.
That way or another in it's days great car.
1000 quid reasonable price?

Just been to see this; left it myself.

Pro

Drives well, had a hesitation under hard acceleration that lifted over long test drive, been sat for long period of time, wheel wobble, possible binding brakes so both these things may lift with more driving time, seller genuine enough.

Cons

Seller maintained so no stamp since he bought it in 2000 with 35000miles. 5 previous owners on logbook, not 1, so its been around. Every panel has pin dents or rust so needs a full respray to be sharp. Soft close was inop or erratic. Hesitation under hard acceleration. Wiring loom crumbling (possible relation?) and interior dirty

Otherwise fine. A fair price at 1000 in my mind.

Bargepoles at the ready for that one I think.
