I don't know what is the problem so maybe someone will be able to help me. As I was coming down to car park noise came out from the middle of the car (speed almost 0mph) and car stop moving like something was blocking wheels. Noise is still on even in P. Any idea?

Could be lack of gearbox fluid and its air traveling around the gearbox. Are there any signs of an oil leak under the car

no nothing. no leaks, no smoke, no warning lights on dashboard

Thinking logically, if the vehicle stopped and the noise is still there it cant be drive train behind the gearbox and if it continues whilst in park it must be gearbox. Either a lack of fluid or torque convertor come loose or something of the nature. There is no other reason the car would stop moving

When you said scratching i remember someone describing a lack of gearbox oil as sounding like scratching as the box pumped air through the system

Is there no drive at all from the gearbox even if you increase the revs slightly

i didn't check that yet. don't want to make more damage. I just called AA and waiting for them to check.

Good thinking, i reckon it will be low on gearbox oil and it is pumping air around the box or the filter has blocked and it is starving the pump of oil. Please let us know what they say. Good luck

Cheers Martin

It looks like it is torque conventer. Does anyone have an idea how much is that to repair?

New torque converter from Mercedes is in the region of £800. Might be worth trying to get one from a breakers (get a warranty on one if you do)
