Hi. I'm new to the forum and have tried to do as much searching on this issue before feeling compelled to post. Sorry if I've duplicated a thread on this posted previously.
I bought a 2006 ML320 (W164) in December, knowing that it had an issue with the radio reception. I had the h/u (COMAND NTG2) checked by a local company who specialize in h/u repairs and they confirmed that the h/u was not the issue.
The antenna booster in the boot was replaced by the previous owner, and didn't resolve the issue, so over the weekend I stripped the paneling down in the boot, and established that the power cable to the booster had split so no power was going to it. I bypassed the faulty cabling and got reception, which was a right result! Went off, bought all the bits to finish up and do a tidy job, ran the new power cable in....no reception again!
So at a guess, I've got two issues...power to the booster and probably a dodgy antenna coax. I'm trying to figure out where the coax runs once it leaves the h/u, assuming that the correct coax is the black connector from the h/u.
I fear it is in the roof lining, but was hoping someone with knowledge might know or be able to share a diagram from star? Also, do you know if it is a single point to point cable or does it go via a splitter mounted behind the headlining? I've seen W164 'roof antennas' on eBay which are different to the antenna booster, so wondering if that might've failed?
Any help which anyone could offer, I'd be really grateful!
