w201 2.6 on Gumtree

Rare for a reason - horrible box.

It's also got the uber rare adjustable steering column!

^^ That's site is just bull****.

Automatics, especially on the 2.6, outnumber manuals by about 20 to 1. Just look at the ads on autotrader or ebay.

The site is based on the registrations with DVLA. Any car dealer will tell you that a good 30% of log books have the wrong details on them. Wrong model number is very common, but also engine capacity and even colour can be incorrect.

Back to the subject at hand. 2.6 = Auto, there is no other option.

V12 Can you let me know why you'd prefer the auto over the manual. I've currently got a 190d 2.5 manual as my daily driver and I don't mind the manual box, actually I quite like it so much i've been mulling over getting a 5 speed 190e 2.6.

There is nothing wrong the gearbox on a 2.6 manual, the problem is the daft rubber bushes in the gear linkage. Change them for brass items, and it transforms the feel of the gearbox.

The thing about the 190 is the steering wheel is slightly offset and although the seat is level with the pedals its just all a bit weird but strangely doesn't notice on the auto bit does on the manual. Every car ive ever driven I prefer a manual gearbox apart from the 190

Characteristics of the 2.6 suit the auto.

The diesel needs the manual to make the most of the power available.

Having done many many miles in dozens of 190s I can tell you that one box doesn't fit all!
