w201 2.6 Sportline

Thats lovely.

You could also get a few quid back too by selling on those wheels and that ridiculous steering wheel!

I see it has Air Con, which is quite rare for a 190.

Yep - but I wouldn't rely on it working though after 20 years and 154k miles :o

Will be an old R12 system too.

Car looks okay other than the wheels and silly steering wheel, but as said - nothing remotely sportline about it.

Price has got better as I think it was up for something silly like £3K to start with.

been for sale for while now, sure it was over 2 grand last week on ebay

This looks nice for a W126 - late on a 1991 'J' plate, 500 SEL in the right sort of colour scheme

1991 MERCEDES-BENZ 500 SEL

Lower mileage, newer and £100 less than the non-sportline 190 with moody wheels from the same dealer! :o

The W126 looks quite rough, rear bumper chromes shot and a few scuffs here and there.

A mate went a long way to HMC and when he got there the car he was viewing wasn't at all as described, advise caution.

Fair enough - they don't seem 100% upfront when you read about the 190E either!

Body rust is the killer for these. Bumper chromes are quite expensive and hard to find these days, but you can't put that car down if all it needs is new chrome and a scuffed bumper or minor stuff seeing to!

Would rather a scuffed bumper than a rotton rear bulkhead, badly rusted wings etc. To be fair, they do mention those items in the advert :o

It's still a nice looking car, J-plate W126s are quite rare?

I'm a huge W126 fan and have had a couple, they are great cars and as you say, at that age rare, just advising that HMC are unreliable in their descriptions. Agree ref the scuffed bumper. I ended up having the whole car resprayed from windows down when my W126 developed literally 4 bubbles of rust, one on each wheelarch. Looked great then though. It may also have rusty wings and parcel shelf.

And once youve located the new bumper chromes, the fixing kit (i.e. a bag of screws) is over £200 from the dealers!
