Does any one know what would cause the cruise control to sometimes work and some times not. Or at least what to at. On my dad's C220 it doesnt work 8 out of 10 times you try it, the ABS light also comes on now and again but not regularly, and usually it goes off if you switch the ignition off and on again (not while driving though)

Thank you, will have have a look at that. Is it safe then to assume the cruise control gets it's info from the ABS wheel sensors?

Yes it does. It also looks at the brake light switch, so it knows when to disengage. A fault in any of the systems feeding it will cause it to stop. Faulty brake light switches are fairly common and are also cheap and easy to fix.

The brake light switch is working fine, I'm betting my money on the wheel sensors then as the car has 307000km on the clock and I doubt they ever been cleaned, now I just have to make time to get them out and cleaned.

I have a similar problem, though mine works at lower speeds, but not over 55-60mph!

Am expecting it to be a sensor, though gonna wait untill I have sorted worn bushes etc and put my new tyres on!

I have cleaned the ABS wheel sensors and the brake light switch is working properly but the fault is the same some times it works other times it doesnt.

Out of curiosity does the milage on these w202 models ever roll back to zero like it does on the Vw's of t he same year or does it just keep going till it reaches 999999?
