According to the MB alarm brochure my car MIGHT have an override keyswitch located in the PASSENGER COMPARTMENT , anyone know where that would be ? I know there's one on the back of the alarm but all that does is switch off the auxiliary alarm battery. :wallbash:

It should be inside the glovebox

Mine's a pre-facelift, was your's ?

The key hole on the back of the alarm will disable the siren, not sure if it switches off the whole alarm system or just the siren.

On mine, a scorpion also, the key hole is located on the panel above driver’s knees, on mine it will turn off the whole alarm system.

Sorry mate as i got comfused  my was a laserline, and was fitted on many early mercedes from new.

i had a laser line on my 1994 c180 and that couldnt be turned off! but when i wanted to replace the siren! i contacted mb to get a part number an they told me they never fitted laserline alarms they only fit there own alarms!

Hi Dec,the keyhole on the back of the alarm only turns off the auxiliary battery in the siren, it doesnt actually stop the siren (& this is what my booklet says ). :wallbash:
There is no keyhole above drivers knees :wallbash:

Hi , no, its got no numbers on it,under the rubber boot it says DIBD & there are 3 cables going into it.
There isnt even a model number on the leaflet

i hate it when they dont put part numbers on

Hi,
MB only fitted Scorpion alarms to the early vehicles, they were MB's own alarm system as they were manufactured under licence to MB, hence why they were intergrated into the standard fit remote central locking and interfaced with the "factory" MB immobiliser (if fitted) though some Scorpion systems did have there own intergrated immobliser a Scorpion alarm system fitted to these early vehicles were given a MB pt. no. normally suffixed by the letter "Q" instead of the normal "A", not every one of these systems could be bypassed from the passenger compartment (normally a touch pad in the glove box) these systems were normally fitted by the importer upon entry into the UK if the vehicle was to be sold with it standard, by the dealer if they were fitted as an accessory if they were speced by the new owner as an option.
There were approx. 7 different variations of these alarms, some with immobilisers some without, the Scorpion manufactured MB alarm was only fitted to UK cars, until approx. 1997, when in the case of the W202 it was facelifted.
None of the Scorpion systems fitted to these cars were commercially available, as I approached Scorpion 6-7 years ago for a new control unit and siren.

Can you just unplug the 3 wires from the siren, as Andy says, there many diffrent versions of these alarms.

Why do you want to disable it anyway?

Disconnecting the siren with the alarm armed, certainly with mine will make the siren operate (unless silenced by the key switch on the back), mine was wailling in my hand and I had to bury it in an old quilt for an hour or so till the back up battery went flat, but not all have this back up battery fitted.

Thanks Dec & Andy,iv already turned off the aux battery,i'm concerned that if i pull the wires from it that it will upset the ECU.
Andy, what does this touch pad look like ?
Reason for doing this is, the alarm goes off for no reason, even done it when the car was unlocked & i was halfway through washing it !!
This car also has an MB immobiliser on it, so dont want to upset that either !

Personally, I would turn off the ignition then disconnect the siren to see what happens, I’m not saying that you should do that, you probably have more sense than I have.

Some of those alarms had the radio involved in there circuit, which also includes the aerial as well, so worth checking that the radio/ariel doesn’t have any bad connections.
Also check the pin switches on the doors, boot and bonnet.

But turning off the ignition doesnt disable the cables to the alarm does it,otherwise it wouldnt be able to sound in the middle of the night, like last night :wallbash:

No it won’t but if there is no siren then there is no noise in the night.
