where is the engine ecu located on a w202 c200 1996 model saloon? thinking of buying a car that is missing the ecu and replace it with a ecu from a donor car that i have.. but dont know the location..

Be careful. I had that exact model/age W202 where the ECU died 2 years ago, screwed up the whole car and all I could do with it was to sell it for parts (engine, catalytic converter screwed up apparently, as was the transmission, don't see how the ECU did all that). So if it was removed because it was faulty I'd avoid, but it might just have been taken to put into another car so who knows...

Anyway, ECU failure is a very well known fault in this car and will happen one day. There are lots of other things to look out for:

Feel freem to disagree, I just had one of these and it all went horribly wrong. Paid £2000 for it, sold it for £350 with just 89000 miles

If your C200 is fitted with a PMS Ignition Control Module you'll find it under the windscreen washer reservoir. These do sometimes go bad with time & are available used. C200 PMS units are much rarer than C180 PMS units & command a higher price due to their scarcity. If you have one & it's bad replace the coils before fitting a replacement PMS unit or you may fry the new one. PMS units are not coded but make sure you replace part number for part number or it won't run right.

If the car doesn't have a PMS unit I think the ECU is under a black cover directly in front of the bottom NS of the windscreen. Most of these ECUs are coded.

it was removed at a workshop and it went missing so i can buy the car for £200 i have a c200 donor car with front damage i maybe can use it from if it is in one piece after the crash..

You was ripped off. Ridiculously.

ECU failing doesnt do ANY of that.

And even in parts its worth far more.

Want to buy some magic beans?
