gawd, problems always comes in 3's don't they!!!

the fullbeam on the passenger headlight has stopped working. I only noticed when I caught it's (non)reflection at night as the bulb out warning light on the dash didn't come on.

I put a new bulb in, that didn't work. I put the bulb from the other side in, still didn't work. I put the old passenger side bulb into the drivers headlamp and it was working so it isn't a blown bulb.

I then checked the fuses in the engine compartment, including swapping them around. All seemed ok but light still wasn't coming on.

The connector to the bulb looks fine, no corrosion or loose wire.

Anyone have any ideas where to look for a fault short of taking the headlamp unit out?

If none of the fuses were blown, this should pretty much eliminate any short-circuit, so you should look for an open circuit (is there a break in the wire especially where it terminates at the lamp holder for example?).

Your headlamps go through relays as the current is so high, it could be a faulty relay or fuse

are you sure there are the relay?

I'm asking this because I've modified the wiring on my previous W202 facelifted cars (with H7 low beam and H1 high beam), I've installed bigger size wires in order to utilize 100w bulbs:devil: , I've installed suitable relay since I was not able to find our if/where factory relay are provided:)

hi

PS: Mickl try looking for possible oxidation may be moving the plug that go to the headlamp, hope you'll solve asap

5MXRMJDH

There has to be something. 55 in the link ? A stalk cant pass the current that the headlamps use.. 55 is termed an control unit, though as you say there are no relays on their own on this car

thanks Malcolm!

where is the link you are referring, sorry but I'm not able to see anything.

What is this sequence"5MXRMJDH"?

hi

Marco:)

ok thanks.

So you are saying that number 55 is a sorti of control unit that work as a relay, do you think I've the same criteria in my newer W203 year '03?

Mickl try checking and moving the plug number 25 (or 40 it's not clear from the drawing).

thanks for the info guys, I'm going to have another check of the wiring tonight.

the last 2 links were for the 203 270cdi, I can do a detailed search, but for the 202 or the 203, this is not one of my best days

Yes on the 203 that would appear to be the only one

no no it's OK it's not necessary for me any further investigation:) , I don't have any specific problem to solve, I was only wondering if that particular device act as a relay or not, I don't think so.

thanks again Malcolm:)

to update

it turned out to be oxidisation on the main connector to the lamp unit. after a good clean, all is well :)

thanks to Ian and Brian at 124works.
