Hi,

w202 C200 automatic. Severe lack of power when cold. Has been getting worse over a year or so. You can put your foot flat to the floor and the revs remain low. Car performs fine when it's warmed up

Any ideas what it could be? I was thinking some sensor or other like the air mass?

W202 C200 Lack of power.

I've got a 1997 W202 C200 petrol auto, with pretty much the same problem.

Does this car idle erratically and misfire on startup and then once it's moving, does it suddenly burst into life when it's warmed up? Also, can you smell fuel at start up?
I was about to make my first post regarding this problem, when I spotted you in the same boat.
I was told the fuel smell was due to it running rich when it's cold, the problem being the thermostat. I replaced mine and it got better, but hasn't cured it by any means. I've got to tell you, my vehicle sorting experience is fairly limited, but I know the MAF is easy to blame, easy to change and very expensive. Lot's of people seem to replace them and it doesn't solve the problem. One thing I have spotted, oil has gone up the little pipe from the camshaft cover to the air duct, through the air duct the throttle body, and on removing the throttle body I notice the inside of the inlet manifold is caked in oil. So I'm cleaning this crud out first. I'll give details of the other stuff I suspect and things I've done in a seperate post, but that's my fairly inexperienced opinion.

Best of luck.

It's common for it to fail in this way. It can become almost dangerous to try and pull away.
Ask ecp for an oem maf. They have a massive sale on this weekend!!!!

Bought a Bosch MAF this morning. Car going better than ever. Hopeing that Bosch is OK, the OEM one was £90 more expensive. Avoided the cheapo one, I've read many bad things about their life expectancy.

Many thanks.

Poor idling, issues when cold, could also be the fuel pressure regulator. The roundish thingy on the end of the fuel rail. Unfortunately, I no longer have the part number.
