hi i have bought a used automatic dimming mirror for my w202 and i wonder if the knob to dim down with on regular mirror is supposed to turn or not on the automatic mirror?

not turn

glass changes color thats all

The manual dimming lever is non-functional on your auto dimming rear view mirror, you did well to get a Auto dimming mirror for a pre-facelift as they are quite rare especially in black, i could only get hold of a grey one for my C230K.

did find mine on ebay uk for 35£ it is pre facelift in black with red and green light.. think it was a bargain if it works like it should.. it had two connectors is it just to plug in and thats it? and my car has two connectors?

Hi,
Auto dimming mirror should only have the one connector to make it work and will be a direct replacement for your existing mirror, the additional connector maybe be for a garage door opener or mic for mobile phone kit, if one of the plug leads is longer than the other this might indicate that it plugs directly into the interior light unit to power the additional functions.

you can see now..

Hi,
That yellow connector will not plug into the light unit, the only connector you will need to connect is the black one to get the auto dimming mirror working, like i said before the only other options that i know of was the garage door opener or mobile phone mic, so i can only assume that the yellow connector would be for one of those options.

okay.. if it is a mobile phone mic i want to get it wired up to my pioneer player that got bluetooth but how? do not think that the mirror got garage door opener it is no buttons for it.. hmm

got it mounted today and it works everything exept the yellow connector that goes to nothing..
and the red light does not work.. is there any way to replace the bulb on it or something?

Lars

The other connector is to connect it to an OEM alarm system. The black connector is all you will need, you will need a loom if your car has not got one already connected

The dimming mirror function and the OEM alarm system is connected through the black connector, the yellow connector as I have said is either garage door opener or phone mic.

The red and green lights are not designed to be replaced, but if your careful you can take the mirror apart but you will need to solder in the replacement bulb.

think i just let it be then the mirror works so a red light has not much to say.. thanks for helping

I once had mine apart since the mirror housing rattled when the car was moving along. The plastic catches for the spring clips inside were totally gone, so a few lines of 3Ms double sided extra strong adhesive tape were to the rescue. The mirror housing and the LED bits are brittle, if you decide to take them apart. Well worth it, though.
