Has anyone cleaned the pins on their speedos/rev counter as mentioned in this thread http://mbclub.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=10465&highlight=speedometer ???
My speedo decided to start being lazy today and started staying on the stop up to 30mph or so(nearly got me a bleeding speeding ticket  ). It works ok after that and I can slow down (but not stop) and it works fine. Then I noticed that the rev counter and temp gauge were taking a while to leave their pins too :( . It was one of the hottest / sunniest days of the year today so that’s why I think it could be related to the above thread.
ive ordered some isopropyl alcohol form the local chemist (sorry about the spelling  ) to clean the pins but is it just the pins the needles rest on or are there some internal pins?
I wont be doing it till I’ve got my other car MOTed and taxed (as I have to have a car I can use without notice) but that goes for its MOT tomorrow and is taxed from Sunday so may have a go at the merc speedo next week.
The odometer works fine all the time so I presume the speed signals are still coming from the abs sensors.
Anyone fixed the speedo probelm? I can find a few threads about the speedo problem but no posts about a sucessfull repair  ?

Just been out in the car now things have cooled down and the sun gone in.
The first time I set off the speedo didn't respond till 50mph   after that it still jumps up to just under 30mph from standstill so not sure if its temp/sun related or if its a electrical/computer problem :( .

Solved :-)

Just taken the speedo to bits and cleaned the pins and needles put it back together and all is back to normal :) .
Shame I had to buy so much alcohol  as I only used a small amount but can confirm that so far so good and its all working great.
Did have one small incident which I still have to sort out   . The plastic bit that has the horn/airbag wires coiled up inside managed to come apart which left me with a nice long length of ribbon cable to coil back up and reassemble :( .
Got that to sort out and refit the steering wheel/airbag :D .
