You need the loom and self levelling sensor from rear of car

The headlights will have the other sensor on it

Yes, but it isnt produced any more and so needs to be removed carefully. He couldnt give me a definitive answer about it so I didnt take the chance.

Hi,
When i was retro-fitting mine I did quite a lot of research on the loom, and i could,nt find any reason why the 208 auto levelling loom could,nt be used after all it is only a 202 coupe, or even a 210 loom though it maybe a bit too long.
If I was looking to do it again the lack of available loom would,nt stop me as there is no shortage of available donor cars for the loom, and to be honest I would not trust any breaker to remove it, the breaker I sources my lights from did,nt even know there were separete ballast units. I made a trip to Birmingham and spent the day removing the loom, ECU and the suspension feedback units.
Those lights are a bit of a bargain might even make him an offer and keep them for spares. I,ll have to have a look at my bank balance.

Thats a steal for the lot wheres Karl now ?

Thats interesting, I didnt think of that. So there is a loom from the W208 which would work, have you got part numbers?

Wasnt me this time :(

Would have been my 'final' mod :)

Though i would of bought a new levelling loom if it had been available. In retrospect I think anyone retro fitting the Auto-levelling system needs to remove the loom from a donor car, then they know how it is routed in the car and where the loom is connected to existing systems in the car. There is a step by step WIS instruction on how to install the loom but to be honest though i could of fitted the loom from the instructions there was one connection instruction I could not of carried out, but as i had loads of pics of the removal from the donor vehicle I was able to do It, and even after I had connected it correctly the work instruction still did,nt make sense.
If you still want to go the new loom route, I would first identify from the EPC which other MB has the most similar system, ie looking at pt. No.s for the ECUs, suspension sensors, etc.

NW Merc, what car were you planning on putting the Auto-levelling system on? If its your early pre pre facelift car what diagnostic socket does it have? The same type as your facelift?

What do I need to look out for with regards to this?

It's not definite I am going to get them yet, the guy who's removed them from the car doesnt think he has removed the ballasts, so may (possibly) have to fork out for those or get the TT units. I've PM'd another member to see what he did to change the wiring order in the connector to get the Audi Ballast to work with the W202 headlamps.

I dunno if I've opened a can of worms by getting them now :(

i done the audi ballast mod, you just need the plug shell and you move the 3 or 4 wires across, wire is shorter than the mb ballast so you cant put them in the oem position.

Have you got part numbers and some instructions on what wires to move?

The reason why i ask about the diagnostic socket is that the Auto-levelling system has to be intially calibrated by star, and as such there is a wire that goes to the diagnostic socket, if your car does not talk to star you won,t be able to calibrate the system.

Oh, it should talk to star, as far as I know it has a diagnostic socket on the pre-facelift but I have no idea as regards to whether STAR could calibrate it. The facelift has Canbus so I'm assuming it should be easier with that.

The guy selling these Xenon's is a good helpfull guy. I saw him on wednesday and stripped the interior on this C43.
I bought quite a few bits for my C43 :D

I know the prefacelift has a diagnostic socket, I have a prefacelift C230k, but your early 202 prefacelift is an early one, sometimes referred to as a pre pre facelift, which i have always believed to have a different diagnostic port, similar to the 124.
STAR does calibrate it nothing else can, STAR reads of the settings from the suspension atitude sensors, makes sure there in spec, then you calibrate the hieght of the system which is then used as a datum for the system to maintain.
