PROBLEM! Since I got my thermostat changed my car won't start in the mornings, yesterday it took 5 cranks with me pressing accelerator pedal to get it going but once started it drove perfectly averaging 49mpg. But this morning it will not start at all,it just cranked and cranked and no star. What could be the problem? HELP

Iv also had fuel filter changed recently and oil service,a full B SERVICE!

When your thermostat was changed your fuel pipes where disturbed, they are now leaking. It happens with age, a new set can be bought from a main dealers.

Question is then if my fuel pipes are leaking then why am I getting a higher mpg on the motorway than I did before? I was thinking more of the Crank Sensor? My tech said he'd need to plug it into his computer to find the source? Will the computer pick up on leaking fuel pipes?

It is air leaking in, not fuel leaking out. When the engine stops, air leaks into the system and difficult to start. On the W210's you could buy a new set of O rings or new plastic fuel pipes. Not sure on your car though.

+1 for o-rings..

Computer will pick up low pressure during the crank, which does not allow engine to start.

Better mpg is due to new stat :thumb:

Is that O ring fix expensive to do? Hope it's not a whole engine removal or anything. How hard a job is it to do? I hope my techs computer will be able to pick this up when he checks it but that won't be till Sunday as he's very busy just now!

The o rings are pence and can be purchased from mb. You will need the x2 on the fuel feed pump and one on top of the filter. About twenty minutes work including removing, refitting the engine cover.

Ok will keep you all posted on the outcome which will be Monday night

Your fuel consumption improved because the thermostat was changed and hence the engine was operating at the correct temperature compared to before.

So by the sound of things these O rings need to be airtight to aid starting the engine but once engine running then they don't really play a huge function ya? Sorry for these stupid questions but I really just want to understand coz yesterday my car was driving like a new car and no Malfunction error showed,am just really gutted it hasn't moved today. I hope it's just those O rings that need changing

More or less, on my W210, when the engine was running, because it had plastic pipes, you could see the air bubbles passing through the pipes. But, the W210 fuel system was easier to see than yours, as one of the posters have said you need to remove the engine cover to access your "plumbing" :D

If the pipes are embrittled then it is more than likely that when you change the O rings the pipes will crack and you will still have the same problem, very annoying, I would bite the bullet and change all the pipes but do note the order in which the pipes come off as the new ones will break very easily (the clips that is) if you try to remove one. Also don't forget to buy a new pipe clip for under the fuel pump on the front of the engine! it breaks even easier than the pipes!

This is good advice to be fair. The pipes are not expensive to change

Iv now decided that I'm going to replace all the O rings regardless of whether that's the fault or not when it's plugged on the computer on Monday. I'm now need to call the dealer to order them so what do I ask for? My car is 2003 w203 c220 CDi avantgarde? I'm thinking of doing the job myself as you guys say its not that difficult to do

The computer won't necessarily give you the answer. Changing the o rings will help

I thought the computer told you exactly what The problem is? Now I'm confused!!!!

Well I hope my tech knows what he's doing then coz he was talking about the fuel filter being faulty but iv now told him I want the O rings changed too but he's insisting on plugging it onto the computer first

I wish it did.

It is a guide and that's all. The skill is interpreting the data.

+1 for olly - the purpose of star, apart from expert use, a cynic might say, is for rip off merchants, or those who do not have the skill to interpret the data, to give the punter confidence that he really does need a new turbo plus actuator for a grand or so instead of just refurbing an actuator for a hundred or so............am I a cynic? of course............
