HI All
I bought a set of AMG alloy wheels form ebay and cannot return them as I bought on EBay 8.5 j rear and 7.5j front nice wheels. They are A204 401 and A204 4602 AMG alloy wheels. the back wheel fits with 9.5mm spacers from halfords and the front wheel fits with no spacers. The bolts are too long on all wheels and need to be about 35mm in lengh not 40mm so have not been able to fit them.
Have now been told that they may not be 12x1.5 as used on my 2002 c class 270i cdi model ? possibly M14 mm bolts . any advice would be welcome can the bolts be cut to fit ?
Many Thanks
David

1) If the hellfrauds spacers are this type of multifit nastyness you really don't want to be using them. The lip at the centre of the wheel hub is there to locate the wheel concentrically, the wheel bolts sole job is to clamp the wheel to the hub with drive being transmitted via the friction created by the clamping effect from the bolts
'Proper' wheel spacers are 'hubcentric' in that they're machined in a way to locate on the hub spigot and provide a new one to locate the wheel. The shim type in the hellfrauds link can cause vibration problems as the wheels aren't located properly. They also expose the wheel bolts to bending and shear forces they aren't designed for

2) There's only partial part numbers for the wheels but they're for a w204 which does use m14 bolts. The seat radius is different as well as the thread and length. DO NOT TRY and modify your existing bolts. You can buy bolts with a 14mm seat radius (to suit the wheels) and the correct 12x1.5mm thread for your car BUT...

3) the w204 (latter C class) uses very different wheel offsets/ET to your w203. Wheel ET numbers will be somewhere on the back of the wheel, the w203 uses ETs in the range of high 20s to mid 30s depending on wheel width (7.5 inch wide would be ET35 - ET37). W204 uses ETs in the high 40s to low 50s range, if the fronts you've bought are ET47 they'll sit ~ 10mm further in than they should and while this may not stop them being physically fitted they may (probably will?) foul something in use

Wheel offset/ET is explained here... Wheel offset information

Thanks for your reply: Yes these are the spacer that I have got.
I have checked the part numbers for AMG wheels:
Front A204 401 4502, 7.5j 1x17 ET47
Back A204 4602, 8.5jx17 h2 E158
I was told that I would only need some spacers for the back wheels from Halfords that's why I got them there, then had the bolt problem.
Can you advice where to get the correct spacers and bolts with a 14mm seat radius and a correct 12x1.5mm thread.
Would spacer for the front and back fix the problem you described as wheel offset and fouling something in use?
Again many thanks for your help

Personally, I would stick them back on Ebay & look for a set that fit your car. Just put it down to experience if you lose a couple of quid. :thumb:

Russ you are probably right mate but now that I have them I wanted to know if I got all the correct components to fit these wheels would they be ok.
They are all refurbished wheels and look new. I did not know at the time it was not going to be straightforward that's why I need advice.
If they are ok to use with the correct spacers and bolts no problem but if the advice is not to use then I will have to put it down to experience and will loosing out on this

All Mercedes wheels are hub centric, as soon as you start using spacers you are relying on the bolts to keep the wheel centred instead. Usually brings its own problems like wheel balancing is no longer accurate.

Russ

Only use H&R hub centric spacers.

Do not chop bolts get new ones you need to measure the length through the wheel & spacer to the hub with enough thread to go into the hub properly. Too long and you will hit the handbrake shoes on the rears, too short and your wheel will fall off.

As above you may simply be better putting them back on ebay and geeting the correct fitment for your car.

DO NOT use non hub centric spacers. You will have no end of vibration issues.

You really don't want to mess around with wheels and trying to get them to fit unless you really know what you are doing, and by that know the length of bolt, then buy a spacer that will fit properly with a bolt length you can get.

I am new here but would like to say thanks for all your help nice forum guys.
I have found a garage that has helped and fitted them for me they have used spacers but not the Halfords, they said they are rubbish. the car looks nice with new wheels.
My next project will be to fit parking sensors will let you know how I get on
