W203 220 CDI Estate
Hi. I am looking for some advice on this issue I have with my 2007 W203 C220 Diesel Sport Estate.

It seems the automatic gear position selector unit (A2032672524) has failed ,according to the dealer and a new one will cost me £900 to supply and fit (it's a £600 part and has to come direct from Germany apparently). Symptoms are the intermittent failure to be able to select P,R,N or D and intermittent sticking in just one gear and not shifting up or down whilst driving.

I can get second hand units on eBay for about £100, but was wondering how easy it would be to replace the unit myself and if anyone else has done this and has any advice for me.

Many thanks

Are they sure it is the selector? I wouldn't have thought it would cause that fault?
It sounds more electrical to me. Has the gearbox connector been checked for fluid contamination?

I got the problem fix by my independent Bosch Service centre in the end. It was the gear shift selector that was at fault and it cost me just short of £900 (inc Part, Labour, recoding and VAT). The worse bit was it took 2 weeks to get the part shipped over from MB Germany as they insisted on seeing copies of my Passport, Driving Licence, Proof of address, V5 doc and a signed letter requesting the part, before they would release it !!. My service centre said the part, once fitted, would need to be coded to my specific vehicle and would not work on any other car. So far, I have covered 1000 miles since it was fixed and the car drives perfectly.

Unbelievable! I could understand that level of security (maybe!) for a spare key, but a part to make the car go?

I am surprised that 203 parts would need coding.
Perhaps that's their 'standard line'?

Have a look on Youtube there is plenty of information here is an E class example.
Is your gear box a 722.6?
