Hello, im a new member looking to gather information on W203 C-Class that im looking to buy.

My budget will only allow me to get 2000/2001 models. Ive always had BMW/VW and im totally new to Mercedes.

When buying these cars, what things are there to look out for? Im looking at a C180/C200. Whats the difference between classic, elegance and avantgarde?

Is there a buying guide for them and what extras are worth looking out for?

thanks

The difference between classic, elegance and avantgarde. Is mainly the interior trim and exterior extras such as lights, grill, alloys & body styling. Performance wise the Avantgarde version has lower and sportier suspention. In my eyes Avantgarde is my personal favourite but Elegance is good too. Avoid Classic if possible. Also try to get a Kompressor engine has more power !

Kompressor engine was not available on the earlier cars save for the C230K the C180 & C200 are effectively 2.0 litre naturaly aspirated engines neither powerful, refined nor fuel efficient. Let me know your budget as I only paid £9995 for an 53 C180K Avantgarde SE Auto Estate with Comand, Parkt, Clima, etc as it had 80,000 miles on the clock. As long as these cars have had a FMSH there should be no real worries. The point I am making is you may be better off getting a later car with more miles as the earlier cars were not that great. (esp build quality wise on the saloon)

In the last four years of production, the W202 received a few changes in the choices of engine.Three valves per cylinder instead of four, and twin sparkplugs. The four-cylinder C 230 was replaced by the C 240 and the I6 C 280 by the V6 C 280. These changes theoretically reduced emissions, and improved fuel consumption, without sacrificing power.

I believe he is looking for a w203?

dont get the 2001 model.

complete waste of time. you might as well save for another month and get the 2004 facelift model with the amg sport kit. trust me - i did exactly that.

the older c-class look far too dated, dull and boring.

lol, thanks for ther advice but i started this thread 3 years ago!!!

I think that you will find that there is a C200 kompressor, as there is one parked on my drive
