w203 C220 CDI (2001) 2 questions?

Hi, Just bought my first MB. Love it. I have clicking coming form under the dash and from what I've read I think that could be the Stepper Motor Arm (correct me if I'm wrong). I installed Woofers from my old car and since then I've had a few gremmlins. The radio started flashing on and off for a while. Then the battery didn't seem to have enough power for the engine to turn over so I jump started (big mistake after having read the forums). Since then I still occasionally get the radio flashing and also now the auto headlights doesn't work anymore neither do the interior lights of the car. Again from what I've read this could be down to the rear SAM? Is this right? Also could it just be a matter of reprogramming on the star machine or would it definitely be a sam that needs replacing?

The other thing is that on the car I have the buttons for folding mirrors but on the instrument cluster I don't seem to have the convenience option. Are some cars made with the buttons in place and no folding mirrors or is that also just a matter of re-programming? Is there a visual difference between the normal mirrors and the folding ones?

Mirrors, I too have folding mirrors, after about 1 hour at the dealers, they managed to get the convenience menu to show but even with auto fold set to on, they don't...dealer says it's coz I dont have memory seats....your best bet is to contact Alfie via the site etc....he is the coding expert and I would visit him if I wasn't 400 miles away.

If your folding mirrors are of the type where you press the button briefly and let go, and the mirrors fold by themselves, then auto-folding can be activated with STAR (i.e. see Alfie).

If, however, you need to keep holding down the button until they are fully folded, then auto folding feature is not possible.

I have the former, and Alfie activated it for me - and it's working very well indeed!

Thanks for the reply guys. I do have the folding mirrors. I just didn't keep my finger on the button long enough to notice it has to be kept down. What a knob!!!! Is there any way of programming them on star to fold and open on ignintion on/off. From what I have read it isn't possible on earlier models such as mine? Anyone also had the same electrical problems as mine. Car wouldn't start the other day and recovery man told me it was my starter motor gone. It was getting power to the fuse but not turning. Could this be down to the SAM also?

the clicking noise is one of the stepper motors for your air blower vents motors they normally stop after a minute when it cant move into there proper position u might of lost your coding in the sam or the igntion switch when the battery went for the auto lights
