The car is my 2005 W203 220CDi with ~75K on the clock and 5000miles since its last Mobil1 A-Service. It's only in the past month whilst driving, that I've noticed a whine from what sounds like the turbo as it winds up and slows down. The noise gradually disappears as the engine warms up. It's quite a pleasant sound - fine if its by design - though not so good if there's an expensive fault brewing.
I'd be grateful to hear any diagnoses and ideas for tests to confirm its the turbo itself

Obviously, I first heard the noise 2 weeks after the Autoprotect extended warranty expired
