Mercedes C240 Avantgarde Auto W203
Hi - I am very new to this so aplogise in advance if there is already a thread with the information I need but I did search and cannot find anything about W203 Hydro Control Unit.

I have a 2003 registered W203 C240 Auto Avantgarde saloon (with 79000 miles and FSH) that has developed an annoying gearbox issue where sometimes when pulling to a complete halt and pulling away again (like at traffic lights or a roundabout) the gearbox decides to pull away very slowly and go into first gear and not change up any further (whether the gearbox is in W or S mode). However switching the engine off and restarting the car cures the issue temporarily.

I have taken it to Mercedes and they have diagnosed the issue as the car needing a new 'Hydro Control Unit' (which I am told is a PCB that sits in the gearbox oil). The problem I have is their cost to fix it as it seems to be extremely high. Does anyone know of any reputable places in the Nottingham/Derby area that could do the job for a reasonable cost?

Having been made redundant 5 months ago this is not good news for me.

If anyone can help it would be very much appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

This item is called the "electrical plate" and houses speed sensors that fail causing your symptoms.

The plate is aout £170 ish plus 1.8 hours labour and fluids.

Thank you

Thanks BlackC55.
I have now managed to find 4 local MB independents and the lowest quote works out at £80 lower than the dealer. So I've had to bite the bullit and it's now booked in for Friday.

Cheers

Jim
